Explore the fire-and-ice landscape of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula on a full-day, private tour from your place of stay. Walk along the coast in the villages of Arnarstapi and Hellnar, find perfect views of Snæfellsjökull, and visit black pearl beaches at the edge of the peninsula. Meet our driver at your hotel in Reykjavik, then begin the trip to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, a tranquil retreat from the city. The first stop of the day is the village of Arnarstapi, where you can take a scenic walk along a row of jagged cliffs, then continue to Hellnar, a coastal village with fewer than 10 year-round residents. Snæfellsjökull will dominate the horizon as we travel, with stunning views of the ancient stratovolcano, which is capped with a shining glacier. We will keep driving toward the lava pearl beaches of Djúpalónssandur, the rock worn smooth by countless waves. Leaving Djúpalónssandur we’ll travel past striking landscapes to the north coast of Snæfellsnes peninsula to Grundarfjördur fishing village. Surrounded by exceptionally beautiful mountains Grundarfjörður is the home to one of the peninsula‘s most iconic and photographed landmarks, the symmetrical mountain Kirkjufell “Church Mountain” that towers 1500 ft. up from the shoreline.
After your time at Kirkjufell, we’ll begin the return trip, where this tour concludes with drop-off at your original departure point.
The stunning landscape of the peninsula has captured the imagination of people all over the world, ever since Jules Verne wrote the famous science fiction novel “Journey to the Centre of the Earth” but the journey begins at Snæfellsjökull glacier.
